When Avni receives a journal as a gift, she wonders what deserves a place on its blank pages. Through curious observation during a journey on a summer day, Avni and her younger sister Isha explore what a story is and where it’s found.

What if the most fascinating stories are hiding in plain sight?

A charming and contemplative tale that inspires young readers to notice the everyday stories that shape their own lives and to celebrate the possibilities that reside in seeking all the places that stories live.

“The book achieves one of the highest purposes of children’s literature: making the specific—Minnesotan coneflowers or a Gujarati wedding photo—feel universal, and the small—a spring wildflower or a mama’s hug—feel big.” --Minnesota Monthly

Beauty in story

I love all of Meenal’s books and this one is no exception. It is heartbreakingly beautiful both in design and story. The drawings are so delicate and the story reaches the furthest corners of the heart. I bought two for my granddaughter and a friend and will buy more. Thank you Meenal.

About The Process

I love working with both traditional and digital mediums. Either way, all of my art starts out with a very rough and tiny pencil sketch. From there I refine the outlines of the art at the final size until I’m happy with the underdrawing. My favorite parts of the process are playing with color and layering in all the pattern details.
